“I Don’t Mind” was written for a friend of mine who’d been carrying around an immense burden for some time. Between living up to others’ expectations & keeping up with appearances, she had come to the end of herself. Though breaking down was not an option…that’s exactly what was needed.
There are 3 characters in this song: myself, my friend, & HOPE. I had no words for my friend & I’ve slowly learned over time that words aren’t necessary. More often than not, words can’t bring the healing that simply assuring someone they aren’t alone can…that being willing to come up alongside someone in their brokenness can.
Tears, brokenness, struggle, etc. are NEVER a sign of weakness. To break down is a critical part of who we are / who we are becoming. If we are never broken down, we can never be made into something better. If we never fall, we can never rise.
I don’t mind you bleeding & I don’t mind you torn / Cause only in our falling can new life be born.
